Building on the relationships established with our client HB Tunnelling was contacted to assist with new installation of a 150mm diameter foul line at Radford Semele.

Semele Park is a development of brand new homes in the pretty Warwickshire village of Radford Semele, only one mile from the elegant Regency town of Royal Leamington Spa/ This historic village is located south of the River Leam and surrounded by farmland.

HBT were approached by the Client to look at the best approach to bore underneath 3 number STW asbestos mains to install a new 150mm foul line.

The asbestos water mains cannot be shut down during any of the works as they are strategic water mains for the Leamington Spa.

Upon our site meeting to discuss the associated risks with the client, HBT were able to offer guided augerboring as the most suitable technique to install the new 150mm foul line, however we strongly also advised that a heave & settlement calculation be undertaken prior to any works taking place, this would allow us to see what predictions of movement there will be on the 3 number asbestos water mains.

Guided augerbore was chosen by HBT as this offered a quick, low risk option for the client. The existing ground conditions where dry Clay which also lend it to the guided augerbore technique.

HBT was instructed to proceed with heave & settlement calculation, to which this was completed within the week, the results proved that guided augerboring was the best technique as the movement perdition was less than 0.01mm

With this added confidence the client raised the order for the works to proceed, HBT mobilised to site with their BM400 guided augerboring rig.

The works was completed in a total of 3 days, this included the mobilisation & demobilisation.

Client “ Encountered by 3 live asbestos water mains onsite, we were in a bit of dilemma to come up with a solution to safely negotiate underneath the live mains to install foul line for the new build sewer network.
